The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that two to 10 percent of pregnancies in the U.S. are affected by gestational diabetes each year. Blood sugar levels go back to normal after giving birth with about 50% of women with the condition go on to develop type 2 diabetes. Pregnant women who took antidepressants had a 19% increased risk of gestational diabetes. While those taking venlafaxine or amitriptyline increased their risk 27% and 52% respectively.
