Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study from the University of South Dakota. It has long been thought by doctors that Omega 3 fatty acids thin the blood. So doctors have been instructing patients to stop taking them prior to surgery. The study of over 1500 heart surgery patients found that in fact the opposite is true. Patients tended to bleed less during surgery and fewer bags of blood were need for transfusions.
